You get to choose from three primary car insurance packages: Comprehensive Every Day Plus, Third-party, fire & theft, and Third-party property damage.

Autosure’s three car insurance policies in a nutshell

Comprehensive Every Day Plus

  • Coverage includes accidental and malicious damage to your vehicle, natural disaster coverage for fire, flood, and storm damage, theft coverage, as well as damage to other people’s property or vehicles.
  • Key and lock replacement coverage to a maximum of $2,000.
  • You can also choose from benefits at no extra cost such as new-for-old-car replacement, car hire of up to 14 days, and emergency travel, accommodation, and repairs up to $500 per incident, to name but a few.
  • There are also a number of optional benefits available at an extra premium.

Third-party, fire & theft

  • You get fire and theft cover equal to the market value of your car.
  • The policy includes $20 million coverage for legal liability for damage to property and legal liability cover of $1 million for bodily injury in the event of an accident.
  • Benefits also include reasonable transport costs for two journeys per event and emergency accommodation and repairs to the value of $500.
  • Your storage and towing costs will also be reimbursed upon submitting the relevant receipts.
  • Damage caused to your vehicle by uninsured drivers is covered to a maximum of $5,000.
  • Excess-free windscreen and window glass replacement and repair are included as an optional benefit.

Third-party property damage

This product covers your liability for damage to property other than your own, as well as for bodily injury. It, however, does not cover damage sustained to your vehicle in an accident, except when caused by an uninsured driver. The amount for legal liability for damage to other property or people per event is $20 million, and $1 million for bodily injury per person.

To apply for car insurance, you can follow these steps:

To be eligible for any of these products you need to:

  • own the vehicle and meet the minimum age requirement to hold a valid NZ driver’s license.
  • ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy and within the required mileage limits.
  • be a New Zealand citizen or hold a valid visa that allows you to drive in the country.
  • have a clean history pertaining to fraudulent activities and false claims.
  • provide accurate information on your application.

Taking the hassle out of the claims process

When an incident or damage occurs, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Contact them immediately and provide all the details about what happened, where it occurred, as well as the date and time.
  2. Offer as much supporting documentation as possible. This can be in the form of photos, witness statements, or police reports.
  3. After you’ve completed the claims application form (available online) and attached all the supporting documents, your claim will be reviewed. Keep in mind that a vehicle inspection might be necessary to determine the damage.

  7. Protecting your future coverage

Although claiming from your policy might affect your available cover for future claims, it can be increased back to its previous amount when the damage to your vehicle has been repaired in full. In this case, an additional premium will be applicable.
