Coverage includes:
- Terminal illness cover of up to $500,000 for treatments and caring for your family.
- An advanced funeral benefit that pays out upon the death of the life insured.
- Critical illness cover to give you enough time to recuperate.
A number of exclusions apply:
- Death due to war, riots, or acts of terrorism.
- Death caused by suicide or self-injury within the first 13 months of coverage.
- Certain pre-existing medical conditions.
Assurance Extra
This policy is designed to cater to your personal life and living insurance requirements. With nine distinct covers to choose from, you have the flexibility to customise your coverage. These include:
- Life cover and life income cover provide a lump sum payment or a monthly amount (life income cover) in the event of your death or diagnosis of a terminal illness. In the case of a terminal illness, you’ll get your current life cover amount, up to a maximum of $500,000.
- Trauma cover provides a lump sum payment if you experience a defined illness or condition for the first time.
- Complete disablement cover comprises a lump-sum payment if you become completely disabled due to illness or injury.
- Income cover provides a monthly amount to compensate for lost income if you’re unable to work.
- Mortgage repayment cover takes care of your mortgage repayments. It also provides compensation for lost income due to disability.
- Redundancy cover provides a monthly amount for up to six months to support you if you’ve lost your income.
- Specific injury cover offers a monthly amount for up to six months for specific injuries.
- The Premium cover protects your policy in the event of disability, redundancy, or bankruptcy.

Premiums that adjust to the times
Eligibility requirements
- You have to be a New Zealand citizen between 18 and 55 years old when you apply.
- New Zealand passport holders also qualify.
- You’re eligible if you have a permanent residency visa too.
- A steady income to prove you can afford the premiums.
Documentation to be submitted
- Valid passport, driver's license, or government-issued ID.
- Utility bills or bank statements showing the applicant's current address.
- Details about your medical history and any pre-existing conditions might be required.
- Proof of income, such as pay stubs or tax returns.
- Names and contact details of the chosen beneficiaries.
- Additional forms or information may be needed depending on the specific policy being applied for.

Getting to grips with the cost of ongoing cover
The premiums you pay can experience fluctuations. The determination of these premiums is based on the coverage provided under the policy and the specific details of your life.
As you age, the premiums are subject to adjustment. Each year, on the anniversary date, your premiums will be modified accordingly. You’ll receive prior notification of changes at least 30 days in advance.
When things don’t go according to plan
You have the option to lodge a complaint. While Chubb aims to deliver the highest level of service, it acknowledges that issues may arise. You can call the dedicated phone line. In most cases, consultants may be able to resolve the issue promptly.
Should the matter remain unresolved, a dedicated resolutions officer will personally handle the case. You also have the option to submit your complaint in writing, or via email. Chubb will conduct a thorough investigation and communicate the results to you.
Mediation made easy
Should any issue remain unresolved, you can approach the Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) for further assistance. Chubb is a member of the IFSO Scheme. The latter is a free, independent service available to all policyholders for resolving insurance and savings disputes.
