There are numerous ways for clients to apply with them, but the easiest way to get started is to navigate to their website’s travel insurance section and fill in the application form.  

Provide the required information:

  1. First, specify the type of BNZ credit card you hold. BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and Advantage Visa Business credit cardholders have access to this insurance coverage.
  2. Next, indicate the amount you’ve spent on pre-paid travel costs charged to your credit card. This information helps determine your coverage and any additional premiums that may apply.
  3. You'll also need to provide the first six digits of your credit card and indicate whether you have a return ticket for your trip.
  4. Provide trip specifications, including:
    1. Dates of your departure and return.
    2. The reason for your travel, whether it's for business or work-related activities
    3. When it comes to the regions you'll be visiting overseas, select the appropriate option from the given choices. These regions include North, South, or Central America, Caribbean, Africa, Antarctica; Europe, Japan, Middle East; Asia (excluding Japan), Indian subcontinent, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland; South Pacific Islands; or Australia.
  5. Personal information is essential for your application. Enter your date of birth and indicate whether you are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand.
  6. If you require medical cover for a pre-existing condition, specify this in your application.
  7. Furthermore, you can include your spouse and dependent children who will be accompanying you on the entire trip.
  8. If you need cover for high-value personal items, such as electronics or valuable possessions, indicate your preference.

After finishing the application, proceed to submit it for review. AIG Insurance New Zealand Limited (AIG), the provider of BNZ travel insurance, will assess your application based on the policy terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria.

It's important to carefully read the policy document to ensure that the insurance meets your specific needs.

A seamless and efficient claims process

In the event of a claim on your BNZ travel insurance policy, it's crucial to keep all relevant documents, such as receipts, bank statements, and emails, as proof of your eligibility for travel insurance.

To make a claim, you have two options.

  • The first option is to use the AIG claims portal, which is available 24/7. The portal provides a step-by-step process for submitting your claim electronically.
  • Alternatively, you can download a claim form from the AIG website and complete it manually.

After completing the form, you can submit it electronically, mail it, or scan and email it to the claims team at AIG.

Ensure that you include supporting documentation for your claim, such as

  • proof of ownership for baggage claims,
  • details of accidents or injuries for medical claims,
  • and confirmation from airlines or providers for cancellation claims.

AIG's claims team is committed to efficient processing, acknowledging your claim within 24 hours and aiming to settle covered claims within ten working days of receiving the necessary documentation.
