About Southern Cross
Southern Cross is a group of businesses dedicated to the well-being of over one million New Zealanders.
Established in 1961, Southern Cross pioneered health insurance in New Zealand and still provides ongoing access to private healthcare options.
Today, they offer a diverse range of products and services, including health insurance, healthcare services, pet, travel, and life insurance.
Protecting what matters most: Southern Cross Health Insurance and beyond
With over 880,000 members, Southern Cross Health Insurance is the leading health insurance brand in New Zealand.
They operate the largest independent healthcare services network in the country, while its hospitals are part of the largest private surgical hospital network.
Leading the charge for health and well-being: Southern Cross's commitment to New Zealanders
They’re a group of companies that work together to provide good healthcare at a fair price.
Instead of focusing on profits, they focus on the well-being of New Zealanders. To do this, they reinvest in hospital facilities and great new technologies to improve the quality of care.
- Southern Cross Health Society uses these investments to stabilise health insurance premiums and provide extra benefits to members.
- Southern Cross Health Trust actively supports fellow New Zealanders in need, reflecting their commitment to community well-being.
They provide more than just health care, thanks to other companies which are part of this fantastic group of insurers.
Southern Cross Health Insurance believes in inclusive governance and promotes active member participation.
They want you to have a say in important matters, like nominating candidates for director positions and in online voting during the annual general meeting.
This democratic approach shows their dedication to being transparent and involving you in decision-making.
Southern Cross Services
Southern Cross Health Insurance provides a range of plans to cater to diverse needs.
Here's an overview of the plans:
1. Health Essentials
This plan focuses on managing everyday health needs. It includes an annual allowance for GP consultations, prescriptions, dentists, optometrist and audiologist consultations, physiotherapy, and more. Southern Cross covers 75% of the costs up to policy limits.
2. KiwiCare
This plan involves cost-sharing between you and the insurer. It offers contributions for cancer care, surgical treatment, specialist consultations, diagnostic imaging, tests, recovery, and support. You can reduce premiums by choosing an optional excess. You can upgrade to Cancer Cover Plus for expanded chemotherapy coverage or add Cancer Assist and Critical illness for extra trauma coverage.
3. RegularCare
Similar to KiwiCare, RegularCare also involves cost-sharing. It provides the same benefits as KiwiCare, along with day-to-day treatments. You can opt for an excess to lower monthly costs and access optional upgrades for Cancer Cover Plus, Cancer Assist, and Critical Illness Cover.
4. Wellbeing One
This is a comprehensive healthcare and surgical package that covers a wide range of medical services. It includes cancer treatment, unlimited surgical procedures, consultations, diagnostic imaging, tests, and recovery within six months of qualifying surgical intervention, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy. Choosing to add an excess can reduce your monthly premiums. Optional add-ons are available for coverage of dread diseases for you and your family.
5. Wellbeing Two
The plan offers extensive surgical coverage. It includes cover for cancer care and surgical treatment, specialist consultations, diagnostic imaging, and tests at any time. After one year, there's an obstetrics allowance for those planning to start a family. You can customise premiums by adding an excess and have the option to upgrade with additional cover.
6. UltraCare
This is their premium plan, offering the highest level of coverage. It includes surgical, healthcare, and day-to-day benefits. The plan covers cancer care, surgical treatment, specialist consultations, diagnostic imaging, tests, and day-to-day treatments at any time. You can choose your specialist, and after three years of continuous coverage, qualifying pre-existing conditions are covered. After one year of continuous cover, an obstetrics allowance is available. There's also the option to upgrade to Cancer Cover Plus.
These health insurance plans cater to a variety of coverage needs. It's important to review each plan's details and select the one that best fits your requirements and budget.
