Understanding your coverage
ASB Bank's content insurance offers three ways to protect your belongings:
- Repair insurance: If an item can be economically repaired, they’ll cover the expense of repairing it as closely as possible to its original condition.
- Replacement cover: In cases where specific items are irreparably damaged, they’ll bear the expense of replacing them with the most similar comparable alternatives.
- Current value: For items such as clothing, books, or footwear, they provide compensation based on their current value. The current value represents the estimated replacement cost of the item with one that’s of comparable age, quality, capability, and condition. Similarly, computer hardware and mobile phones are eligible for present value coverage if they surpass a five-year threshold.
Contents insurance amount
Your contents insurance amount, which includes GST, represents the amount your general contents are covered for, this excludes specific items. It should reflect the value of your furniture, appliances, and clothing. Certain items such as jewellery, watches, art, and bicycles have maximum coverage limits.
To insure an item worth more than its policy limit, you can list it as a specific item with a specific coverage amount. It's important to regularly assess the repair or replacement costs of your belongings and ensure you have the right level of insurance.

In the unfortunate event that you need to claim, ASB has partnered with specialist insurer IAG to ensure a smooth and stress-free process. To expedite the claim process, it’s advised to gather essential information beforehand:
